This was my second reading of this novel, the first was probably 40 or more years ago. Gives a picture of Afghanistan circa 1946, before the Taliban took over. And, of course, before Russia and the United States interfered in their politics. Would have liked more of the story to be about the young American woman traveling with the nomads instead of the musings of the young lieutenant.
