In 2010, an unprecedented rainfall grout mudslides and flooding to the Mexican mountain town of Anganguero. Thirty people were killed; thousands lost their homes and livelihoods. The town had been known as the entry point for visitors to the spectacular colonies of monarch butterflies that overwinter nearby. Kingsolver's book uses this phenonem as its base. Very thought-provoking. I love Kingsolver's characters in this story and the way she makes them extremely believable, with lives that extend beyond the borders of the novel. I listened to the audiobook and the author's voice is wonderful. I've been noticing butterflies everywhere since I started reading this book.
