Not everything from my childhood holds up when I've re-read them as an adult -- this one absolutely does.

I'm not sure how I missed this book when I was a kid. It was published in 1978, when I was 10, so it would have been displayed in my library when I was the perfect age to read it. I think I would have enjoyed it, and I think back then, as now, I would have recognized the clues as (view spoiler) . Combines two of my favourites: mystery and found family.
I was concerned with having too many suspects but they were diverse enough that I could differentiate them. The premise is definitely unforgettable and I've seen several movies and books borrow it.
