Will Schwalbe's mom is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Will and his mom decide to form an informal two-person book club and set off reading and talking about books they wish to share with each other.
And that's this book. Will's mom, it turns out, is an amazing person, with a long history of working to help the unfortunate around the world, especially refugees. We get to know his mom so well that we are terribly saddened by her (inevitable) death.

Lovely book, Mary Anne Schwalbe was a remarkable person and I am so glad that I got to know her in this book. If only to aspire to have as much grace and love for others as she demonstrated. I will also put many of the books listed and read in Will and Mary Anne's book club on my "to read" book list. The Stegner will most certainly be there as will John O'Hara. I am also going to seek out "Daily Strength for Daily Needs". I already have a couple of daily devotionals that I enjoy but seeing God's

Amazing! I now want to read at least 15 other books from this one book. This is one of my favorite books of the year and a true gem for anyone who really loves to read. Magical, tragic and uplifting all at the same time. Reminds me about the joys of humanity.

I really wanted to have a family like this--all book lovers. Mine are barely willing to pick up a book. If I must go thru a horrible illness, this is how I would want do make it thru. Too bad there's no one in my family who'd do a book club with me though!!
