Inspector Armand Gamache is back in Three Pines investigating a murder of a new resident - CC de Poitiers - who is electrocuted in the middle of a frozen lake while watching a curling match. Three stars alone for including a curling match as part of the murder.

This is a very good second entry in the Inspector Gamache series set in Three Pines, a small village in Quebec, Canada. Gamache is a great protagonist, in the style of other great police detectives like Inspector Maigret or Richard Jury or many others. Although there is a murder in these stories, reading them is a calm experience, because Gamache himself is calm and reassuring as a character, and manages to solve the crime by listening and thinking things through thoroughly.

Another interesting and comfortable book in the Gamache series. I enjoyed the quirkiness of the Three Graces and the very descriptive snow scenes. I definitely will read these in order from now on. There is so much in these earlier books that lead into the stories which I have already read in 9,10 and 11. Audiobook. Incredible narrator. Growing to love this village and its people. I guessed one of the reveals earlier than I expected but missed a big one. Gamache is a gem. Fascinating things are happening in his relationships with people. Secrets and spies are everywhere? Excited for the next!!

What a wonderful reading omen to have a Louise Penny book as the first completed in 2020. I have no idea why it took me so many years to return to the town of Three Pines, with its charming residents and the ever sensitive and erudite Inspector Gamache. Now it might take much discipline not to put aside all my other books and just binge read the series straight through.
