to begin with I wasn't sure if I liked it as there were a few annoyingly long passages giving a history of the location which were quite dull and gave no benefit to the story. However, it eventually picked up and I started enjoying it - I even shed a few tears. ...more

4.5 stars! I just came to love Big Stone Gap and all the characters, especially Ave Maria. Definitely going to read the rest of the trilogy!
