This book has great dialogue and multi-faceted characters. Three young New York girls take their first trip on an airplane from their home with their Dad and Grandma in New York to visit their mother, who had abandoned them in Oakland, California. She doesn’t act very motherly. Between the local day camp and their mother they get a glimpse into the Black Panther movement. It wasn’t in depth, because it’s from a young perspective and for a middle school and up audience. 4 stars.
