Meine Meinug:
Die Geschichte klingt flach und einfach. An manchen Stellen ist sie das vielleicht auch. Dennoch ist sie rührend und mitreißend. Milly ist sympathisch. Ihre Angst um Simon, wenn er die Wahrheit über ihre Vergangenheit erfahren würde, lässt einen Mitfiebern.
Aber nicht nur das macht die Geschichte aus. Sophie Kinsella, die hier unter einem Pseudonym schreibt, hat ein Talent dafür, auch die Nebenhandlungen gefühlvoll und detailliert darzustellen. Besonders hat es mir Millys Schwester Isobel angetan. Ihre Probleme, ihre Liebe und ihr Charakter. Sie greift Milly unter die Arme, behält einen klaren Kopf, obwohl sie selbst brisante Geheimnisse hat. Auch die Geschichte um Allan und Rupert hat mich mitgenommen. Sehr authentisch und rührend.
Ohne großes Brimborium hat Sophie Kinsella eine Geschichte geschaffen, die ans Herz geht und trotzdem locker und leicht zu lesen ist.

The story:
Milly will marry soon. She has a wonderful husband, Simon, by her side, and everything seems to be perfect. But she has one problem: she is already married. 10 years ago, 18-year-old Milly married the gay Allan, so he can stay in the country. After the marriage, he was gone. Milly tries to conceal the marriage, but just before the new marriage, everything comes back up.

What I think:
The story sounds flat and easy. In some places it is maybe. Yet it is touching and compelling. Milly is sympathetic. Her fear for Simon if he knew the truth about their past is thrilling and catchy.
But it's not only Milly's story which I like. Sophie Kinsella, who writes under a pseudonym in this case, has a knack for it, even the subplots are described soulful. Especially, the story of Milly's sister Isobel. Her problems, her love and character. She takes Milly under the arms, keeps a clear head, even though they have explosive secrets. The story of Allan and Rupert has taken me. Very authentic and touching.
Without much fuss Sophie Kinsella has created a story that touches the heart and still is to read relaxed and easy. ...more

Not bad at all. A more serious novel than she usually writes, thought the main theme (be who you are, not who you think others want you to be) is a bit obvious. Thought that the conclusion was rushed.
