What Members Thought
I have mixed reactions to this book. There's a lot of good information, but the author seems so coy about her biases and so oddly reticent about certain areas that I get frustrated. I also didn't like the clumsy shifts in chronology and viewpoint. I guess I prefer my history straightforward, even if that means it gets a little slow at times. Sometimes the author also seems oddly ignorant of the backgrounds of certain historical figures. She identifies Mark Twain, for example, as a pro-imperialis
