When Ken and I were driving in Banff about two weeks ago, we stopped to see a monument we had never noticed before. When I read the signs, I was shocked to learn about Castle Mountain Internment Camp which housed "enemy aliens" during WWI. These aliens were really "settler immigrants, primarily of Ukrainian ethnic origin."

I had known about Japanese camps during WWII in the US, but didn't know that this happened in Canada as well and during WWI, as well as WWII. So, it seemed sort of serendipito

This is an interesting novel about Japanese who emigrated to Canada prior to WWII and their lives during that war. We hear much more about those Japanese who had emigrated to the US .
