This is book 2 in the Unwind series. I really enjoyed book 1 because of how creative and well written it is. This one is no different. It's brilliant! For a 400 page book you'd guess it would have a few drawn out sections, nope. There's lots going on in this one, it's intense, interesting and I can't wait to read the next one.

Unwind was fantastic, but the sequel doesn't quite live up to it. I found Shusterman's writing really clunky in Unwholly - something that's nowhere more evident than in the title of the novel itself. Annoying phrases like "'gilt by association" popped up every now and then, and Shusterman seemed to feel the need to spell out the nuances of conversations and relationships more so than usual.
