This was well-written, technically ambitious, and really atmospheric... but something was missing - perhaps it was the heavy-handed treatment of various issues with capital 'I's, like racism, gender discrimination, dangerous literature (written by women, no less!), or perhaps because I didn't quite like the switching back and forth of time-frames between Mattie's worsening relationship with her family and her time at Glenmore, which I felt was unnecessary. ...more

I liked the story and the premise. I did listen to it on tape so I was a bit confused with the sequence of events. I didn't think she was going to tie up the story as well as she did. The end was pretty satisfying and I liked how it was in reference to the actual event that happened. ...more
