The Bundrens must be one of the most unfortunate families in fiction, and terrible things happen to them while they try to transport their dead matriarch to her chosen burial place; followed as the story proceeds and the malodour increases by an increasing number of buzzards. My intellectual pride is wounded as I have no desire to finish this book. I bought the Spark Notes to help me get through it and I can appreciate that the multiple narrators concept was very novel in 1930. I understand the themes and characterizations. I found myself forcing myself to read this and I finally thought, "why?"
