The second book in the Kate Burkholder series. One of Kate's deputies hears a scream while on night patrol and finds the entire Plank family murdered. The investigation soon centers on 15 year old daughter Mary who had a secret relationship with an unknown English man. The Planks were Amish. I didn't find this book as engaging as the first in the series. The murders are described in grisly detail at the beginning of the book. Then the investigation bogs down for quite awhile.
