I'm a huge fan of Sabatini's Captain Blood, The Sea Hawk, and The Fortunes of Casanova, and so finally got around to this 500+ page adventure set amongst the warring Northern Italian city-states of the early 15th century. The title character is a teenage monk who leaves his sheltered convent to walk to Pavia (modern-day Padua) to learn Ancient Greek.
