What Members Thought
Nicholas Sparks has great material for movies that women love. His writing, however, needs a lot of work. I find his books to be dry and irritatingly slow to get to anything romantic or in the least bit amusing. I rarely prefer movies to books but I definitely prefer the movies based off his books to his books. I do not think he is a good writer. Premise great, books bad. I generally really dislike Nicholas Sparks books because the style of writing is too Danielle Steel-esque for me. This however, I found to be truly awful. So much so that I avoided watching the movie for several years, only to finally capitulate and be blown away. This is definitely a case of the movie being far superior to the book.
