Percy Jackson is a student with ADHD and dyslexia who discovers his problems are due to the fact that he is the son of Poseidon. The gods believe Percy has stolen Zuse's lightning bolt and to prevent war Percy goes on a quest to retrieve the bolt. I enjoyed the depiction of the gods and the three main characters. I look forward to reading more in the series. ...more

I would have enjoyed this book if it had been around when I was a kid-it reminds me somewhat of the Narnia series, only with classical Gods. I found it difficult to get past the chatty kid-to-kid writing style at first, but in the second half of the book got over myself and enjoyed the humour.

I enjoyed it... but any children fantasy books are always compared to the first ones I was addicted to (Harry Potter). But overall I recommend it and currently moving on the the 2 book... its the US version of Harry Potter and obviously no wands. I Hope I continue to enjoy them, because I now own all 5 books.

I'd almost give it 4 1/2 stars. The few nights my daughter would fall asleep while I was reading I was very disppointed. I wanted to shake her awake so I could get a few more pages out of her. ;-) I didn't want to put the book down. We're looking forward to reading "The Sea of Monsters." ...more

One of the kids in my Wednesday night class recommended this to me, and wouldn't stop bugging me about it. I'll admit, I didn't have high hopes, but it was actually really smart and fun. I could see boys eating this one up with lots of adventure and action. ...more

This is a fun, entertaining, and clever little series that never goes too deep or gets too suspenseful. Not as well done as Harry Potter, but I think I would have liked them when I was younger and it is a fun way to learn about Greek and Roman mythology

This was a good audiobook that I was able to share with my kids (age 8 & 6). We liked the adventures of the hero and his discovery of being a half-blood and are looking forward to the next book in the series.
