A colossal disappointment after Wolf Hall.
I really like what Mantel is doing with this series with its focus on Cromwell. As she aptly notes in her afterword, he's something of an under-examined figure, which makes seeing the familiar tale of Anne Boleyn's rise and fall through his eyes fresh and engaging. I also appreciate that she doesn't try to push her source material too far or read in interpretations with dubious support.
