I have enjoyed the HBO series True Blood, so it came as little surprise that the novels are equally entertaining. Normally I don't like to read a book after seeing a movie or TV version, but this is an exception. Even when I knew what would happen, I got a big kick out of Sookie Stackhouse's internal musings and her spunky sense of humor. As a bonus, the erotic sections of the novel seemed even racier than the TV rendition. Great beach or hammock reading for a lazy day.

On my list because of the new Alan Ball show on HBO ("True Blood") ... A quick read and fun to see how the show differed from the book (now that season 1 is over). To my surprise, there was no Tara in the book, and Lafayette was merely mentioned once or twice, although both play a rather major role in the show. To my delight, there was no annoying girlfriend Amy for Jason - didn't miss her at all.

Sookie Stackhouse Novel 1. Sookie is a kindhearted outcast, a telepath shunned by most in her community. Vampire's have recently "Come out of the coffin" to the world, and Sookie is delighted to meet Bill Compton, the first vampire to move to Bon Temps, Louisiana. She befriends Bill, and becomes the target of a crazed killer preying on women who love vampires.

My intro to this series - got off to a pretty sluggish start, but picked up steam about 100 pages in and ended up with some good plot twists in the final third. Later entries in the series hold some promise - there are some secondary characters in this one that I'm hoping to see in later installments.

I liked this book. I didn't think I would since I am not a fan of paranormal. But I liked how it made fun at itself and all the little references, like when Sookie wanted to name her dog Buffy... I like Sookie's character a lot and I look forward to reading the rest of the books.

Funny, quick read. Definitely a fluff, escapist book. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the series or not but I wanted to read the book that the HBO show "True Blood" was based on.
