Chronicles the lives of those that make their living in horse racing with second or third rate horses. Told in the dialect of the trainers, grooms and jockeys it is not always clear what is being said or who is saying it. This book won a National Book Award but if I'd been on the committee who decided I would have registered a negative vote. I was disappointed in this 2010 National Book Award winner about professional horse racing. The numerous characters made it hard to keep track of who was who; also my interest waned....not my idea of an award winner.
