4.5 stars. I enjoyed this so much more than usual, because I read it with my sister. We listened to the John McDonough audio version, sped up to 1.4 😀 It was truly a pleasure. What a wonderful escape from everything. Thank you, Jan Karon!

I can see why the Mitford series is so popular! This first book in the series is so down-home realistic and humor-filled and spiritually safe and sound, it is a pleasure to read. We get to meet Father Tim Kavanagh and his friends, a terrific but challenging dog, and take an observer's part in a very nice small town that is happy not to have tourist type income.

I too live in a very small town, about 1000 people, but Mitford (a fictional place) seems larger with a two-block nice business district
