Rena sounds like she was a truly amazing woman, and this book is reported to be one of the most authentic of those written by survivors. 3 years and 41 days in Auschwitz, several other camps, and the death march, and one of the very few first transported people to survive. How did she do it? Partly luck, surely, given the "selections", but also her spirit, her plan to remain faceless in the crowd, her burning love of family, and the need she felt to keep her younger sister safe through it all.
