What Members Thought
Before reading this one, I was not certain if Rowling had a great idea with HP series and the media made it a world wide success. But now I know for sure that she is a very good writer, one of the best in the world, very much writing to my own taste. She is a very keen observer of human character showing us a very diverse micro-cosmos in this first novel targeted for adult readers. But also a very meticulous writer, two traits that I absolutely like.

J.K. Rowling is one of my favorite authors and I admire her immensely. This book, however well-written it is, does not show off her panache and mesmerizing writing style that she has shown so well in the Harry Potter series and her Cormoran Strike series. That said, this story shows a microcosm of modern life in two small English villages, with all of the human drama, emotions, and misconceptions that become apparent when one looks closely at the interactions of everyday people and their actions

This is "spot on" in capturing people and moods. From the reviews at Amazon I expected to throw this back. We all know J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) can tell a great story, but the average for this one was only 3 stars. I think that's an injustice!! Once again, though, it maybe a case of the book being better on audio.
