Explores what it means to love someone so much that you'd be willing to do anything they asked you to do, even if you knew you would suffer for it. Although I thought the trial of the man who had killed his terminally ill wife was interesting, I didn't think the ending was believable. I liked Allie's initial reaction to her husband's infidelity (packing up and selling everything he owned in an impromptu yard sale). This is not my favorite of Jodi's. The concept was good but the writing was poor. The brief snippets of Scotland history threw me off. I found myself losing motivation to finish the book but I finally finished it.

I very much enjoy this author because of the controversial topics she ties into typically small towns in New England. This in particular came as a time when I was going through a death in my immediate family.
The story was compelling, but fell flat of what I expect from Picoult.
