This is an intriguing book and story of a survivor/escapee from the North Korean prison camp 14 - which is supposedly the worst of the prison camps. This should be required reading for all high school students.

UPDATE - 1/19/2015

While the author addressed the fact that Shin told more than one story, it has come to light that more lies were told than we knew. It sounds like the author is trying to do the right thing as he alerted the paper that originally published Shin's story and he is working

I know my spouse would never read this, but it is an important book as it captures in just a few hours of reading (or listening) time the modern day horrors of North Korea. We tend to think of North Korea as a nuclear weapons threat primarily and overlook or are ignorant of the internal problems that are inhumane - it's just not taught in the schools and yet this has been going on since the 1950s.
