Had I known part of this story would have an hopelessly PC part to it's story, I'd have thrown it back. [To spell this out more would be major spoiler time so I won't!] So, it's good I didn't know because instead of making me mad it made me remember conversations with my Grandmother (who was 16 in 1920) that occurred as I discovered various "facts" of life while growing up. This was a sweet little book - nothing too heavy. I find that i really enjoy historical fiction which is set in the early 20th century. It did not have the depth or beauty of Amor Towles "Rules of Civility" but I enjoyed the story. The non fiction part is the story of Louse Brooks - a real silent film star. But the main character is a woman who is her chaperone for a summer in NYC and that summer changes her life and attitude from then on.
