If you enjoy stories of the history of Ancient Rome, I can’t recommend this book enough! The Washington Post called it “The finest historical novel ever written by an American” and I think I might have to agree with that. This novel completely swept me away. It seemed, going into it, like it might be dry, that it might read like a Roman history textbook, but that was definitely not the case. There was life and passion on every page.
