What Members Thought

There are good reads that satisfy and are thoughtful and have lovely writing. And then there are the truly great reads that leave the reader longing to start the book over and reread it just as soon as one turns to the final paragraph. A Death in the Family is a great read.

Well written, but depressing subject matter. Nevertheless, this book won the Pulitzer prize for fiction in 1958, and deservedly so. On the surface this is a book that details a family's experience of unexpected death. Below the surface, it is an exploration of religion and spirituality.

Intriguing, emotional subject matter, but densely written and extremely slow moving. I wasn't able to finish it.
