Rev Clare Fergusson and Russ Van Alstyne are about ready to tie the knot. Clare is back from Afghanistan addicted to drugs and alcohol. She is attending a support group composed of returning military all of whom have some war related issue. The ending is a little too uplifting to be realistic when thinking about war returnees.

Ok...the cute late '90s thing has 100% given way to the sad early 2000s thing. Think I'm done.

I might need to add another shelf "books I've waited... and waited for". This book was definitely worth the wait! The story was intricate and well paced, the plot twists were believable not wrenching or exaggerated. The characters are believable, I love Russ and Clare. The ending was great...

The ending is a little too with-a-bow tidy, but Spencer-Fleming does do a nice job showing the different ways serving in combat can affect those that return. Somewhat lacking on the mystery front, though - takes far too long to get rolling and doesn't deliver much of a payoff once it does.
