Joy for Beginners has Summer Read written all over it. Six friends come together to rejoice in their friend Kate’s recovery from cancer. At the gathering, Kate offers a challenge: She will attempt to do something which has always frightened her, but her friends must also take on a task that frightens them, a task she will assign.

I delighted in this book. It combined elements that I love to find in books: happiness, friendship, challenges, facing-your-fears. Great summer read.

First I have to say that this novel is super chick-lit-light, and, with the character per chapter format, very formulaic. Nevertheless,
it was well done and I enjoyed reading it. A good summer read.

I liked the premise a great deal, and it had many nice moments and good lines, but overall, I found myself impatient with her prose, and kind of wishing for more from this book. I wanted to recommend this to my book group, but just couldn't emphatically do so. ...more

almost too predictable with too-feel-good ending.

A wonderful weaving of stories and lives of 7 women who are friends. As always, Ms. Bauermeister is lyrical in her prose and creates characters you wish were real and in your life.
