This has been praised as a good YA novel for boys. It's a fairly humorous story about a boy who finds himself rapidly acquiring a jock's stature one summer, falling in love, and having to deal with being the child of a father who committed suicide when he was much younger, and a mother who now seems to be spiralling into depression.
