Clete discovers an illegitimate, bad ass daughter Gretchen - and she is a new character who works in well with the series. Kudos James Lee Burke.

This was weird, and unresolved, and sad; it was a really lovely installment in the Dave Robicheaux series, but in a very disconcerting sort of way.
