The writing is very well done, enough to let me ignore my issues with this novel and get to the end. I do have to say, though perhaps in fairness it would have been better to read this when it came out, but I am getting tired of the whole dramatic multiple narrators that have been coming out recently. For example I read Half of a Yellow Sun awhile back, and it did the same thing. I think IMHO that this was simply a very well-written romance novel, which might be a bit harsh, but it was a decent

I really enjoyed this story, though it was a little slow to get into. While the characters weren't particulary likeable, I did find myself sympathizing with their situations and understanding their actions based on their own feelings and thoughts. While giving away one's child (especially because that child is imperfect) is an heinous act, based on David's history and the time period you can kind of understand why he does it. The kind of book you read to finish, not read to savor. There were poignant and reflective pieces on raising a child with special needs, but the other bits were self-indulgent and tedious. I was disappointed that the author didn't make any sort of effort to match form to content, or at least to craft the content in a meaningful or challenging way.

I have been meaning to read this book in forever. It was about twins, so natuaraly I wanted to read it, but after seeing all the negative reviews I kept putting it off. It was just not very exciting and the characters were flat. It was hard to like any of them.
Read for Dr. Carr's class my final semester of school. Enjoyable but unmemorable.
