It is always interesting to read books which get the highest ratings on GR, and to figure out why:
1. mass appeal but nothing else to recommend them?
2. block voting by a particular kind of reader?
3. written about something that is a cult following or trendy at the moment?
4. a totally amazing book? -and always hoping for the last option, I start reading.

Fast-paced, action-packed (full of explosions, vehicular accidents and dramatic confrontations) as well as tinged with romantic tension, Unwind is one of those books I can't help but finish in one sitting. It's nice to see an 'updated' dystopia for our times as well - a world where iPods are actually symbols of a time long gone. very creative idea that fanaticism from both pro-life and pro-choice camps leads to an extreme society. well-written, fast paced, easy transitions between very different types of characters.

I really like the author's themes which are Black Mirror - ish. It's horrifying that it could totally happen. Humankind can prefer transplants over other methods and can come up with wording that makes things sound palatable, such as "being transplanted is not death, just a different form of existence".
It was harrowing listening to the harvest episode.
I agree that there wasn't a lot of deep characterization but I was fine with it, because Neal had a character per scenario, for example, 3 types
