so I kinda like this book actually, especially the main character who has Tourette syndrome. But there is something really off about the translations. I guess there are some books that are better left untranslated. And unfortunately, this book is one of them.Too many indescribable words that made the translation version felt like rubbish to me. I didn't blame the translator, since I thought it's really hard to translate some of the crazy words coming out from the Tourette mouth of the heroine. B

One best read in small segments, as Lethem does a superlative job of using language to convey how Tourette's hijacks thought patterns and introduces compulsions - he gives a strong sense of how overwhelming and frustrating it must be to want to focus one's energy and be unable to do so. It's literary, but not overwhelmingly so because there's a strong plot to underpin the flights Lethem takes.
