The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance appeared to be everything I look for in a memoir – a young girl humorously recounting her struggle with weight, religion, boys, and self-image in the middle of the big city. Despite this promise of empathy and entertainment, I walked away from this read fairly disappointed...primarily because I just didn’t like the protagonist.
