This is a unique telling of the death of a relationship. This book touches me on several levels as life has shown me over the years that the death of a person and the death of a relationship are so similar. The auction catalog format of this novel speaks of that idea, as we so often see the collections of people long past to be the subject of auctions. Author Shapton uses the format of an auction catalog to tell the tale of a four year relationship, now dissolved, between a man and a woman.

Very clever. Precious. But not in a bad way. Makes you think about lists, documenting things, airline tickets, receipts, hip presents, cool friendships, wannabe artists, handwriting, cake, photographs, vintage books and clothes...
One of my favorite lots is Lot 1037. You'll have to read it to find out what it is.
