I first read this book 30 years ago, and read it again with a very different perspective. I feel that Ayn Rand is a brilliant writer, one of the very best. However, her characters are emotionally stunted and they lack basic human compassion. I disliked almost all of her characters, which was a shame, because with her writing abilities, I think she could have created a really astounding novel. She must have been a very broken person.
