This book is fabulous. It is the story of a motherless family in Montana, whose father is trying to hold things together for his three sons. He sees an ad in the newspaper put there by a woman wanting a housekeeping position. The ad says "Can't cook but doesn't bite." She is hired, and the family is amazed by what happens when she and her brother come to town. I had originally rated this 4 stars. But Anytime I read something about "schoolteachers" in any other novel, I'm transported back to this story. The story and setting have stayed with me, so I feel the need to up my star rating to a 5. ...more
