WOW, this book is amazing. I could not put it down. The book is part autobiography, part cartoon and all entertaining. Junior Spirit is a Indian living on the Spokane reservation and he attends an all white school in the suburbs. This is an amazing insightful book, that is brutally honest, raw and humourous. Junior Spirit is a delightful 9th grader who is a smart warrior with lots of problems. Read it, you will love it.

I have really loved the book. Maybe I was in the right frame of mind ...

The only thing ... I have took the book in the teenager section of the library and although i think they've heard and done most of what is written i find the language verbal at times and would put the book in the section young adults as the author has categorized it himself. Sometimes just too explicit.

Would i recommand? Yes ... For Spirit ;-)
Will probably read more of the author. ...more

Wonderfully done - a YA piece that handles themes of belonging and community far better than a lot of adult fiction I've read. It's gotten some negative publicity for its unsanitized language, but I hope school districts embrace it for the many avenues it offers for discussion and deeper understanding. ...more
