WOW! What a difference an audio book can make!! This is a whole new book compared to the print!
Bigger flaws: Does this author even know that the "60s" really started about 1965?? There were NO long-haired, peace sign people in 1963!! NO ONE was protesting Vietnam of the draft there weren't enough Americans there yet. Good grief. Get an editor old enough to remember or one smart enough to check.

I really liked the story and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I couldn't help to feel like it was somewhat condescending and offensive in parts, especially since the author grew up in the south with "help".

I wasn't too convinced from the beginning, but after a few chapters I was hooked. Loved the characters, the shifting point-of-view, and the powerful stories of domestic help in Mississippi during the Civil Right's era. I'm looking forward to seeing how the movie turns out, although judging from the all too skinny and beautiful cast, I suspect that it'll be a glossy Hallmark-type movie focusing more on "unlikely friendships" than the social and political themes.
