This is really quite a wonderful book though I didn't like it quite as much as I did his other books, particularly Empire Falls. Still, it is beautifully written and, in places, absolutely hilarious. Russo has such a gift for quirky characters in crazy but comical situations, yet always with the underlying thread of pathos. Griffin's mother has to be one of the most annoying yet entertaining characters I've encountered in a very long time. Throughout the book I had the mixed feeling of wanting t

Griffin goes to weddings, loves his wife, is estranged from his wife, carries his parents’ ashes in the trunk of his car, and longs to visit the Cape again.
That’s the whole book. I hope I didn’t give anything away.
A long, long section in the middle that dragged so much I wanted to put the book down. But the last third of the book picked up and the story zoomed to the end.

Another vacation book. I always enjoy Richard Russo's book & this was no different. I didn't LOVE it like I did Empire Falls & Bridge of Sighs, but it was an easy read this summer. I would recommend this book -- it isn't too heavy.

This is not a great book but I loved reading it anyways. I love the way he writes and I enjoy stories about married couples in their 50s. He made me laugh so many times. The stars of the book are his college professor, self-absorbed self-important parents! They provided so much of the humor in the book and made me appreciate being a child of parents who thought the world of me and my siblings. Empire Falls was a masterpiece but this is a really good read. Good read for empty nesters.

I think I must have read "The Summer with the Brownings" instead of That Old Cape Magic. I really wanted to love this book especially since the book is written by a pulitizer prize winning author.
I didn't connect to it. The writing style was beautiful and there were thought provoking moments. I didn't feel it like I wanted too.
