Lippman does a nice update of Josephine Tey here, and there's an interesting converge between her series and non-series work as she blends further emotional development for Tess with a plot twist that's clearly from the same font of ideas that drove her excellent collection Hardly Knew Her: Stories. While it's not quite as polished as her recent full-length work, it's still a treat. ...more
