• The narrator was excellent and I that contributed to my enjoyment of the book. The book needed an excellent narrator as it was 24 hours long.
• I would call this a literary vampire/witch/demon story – enjoy learning about their cultures and their fight for power over the centuries
• There is a strong romantic element to the book and how others and their family react gives it a different feel as there is action but a lot of it is strategic and political actions
• There are enough suspenseful momen ...more

Aaaaaah I need the next book. Great, great, great story!

Second book in a trilogy. Diana Bishop and Matthew de Clermont time walk to the 1500's to look for a mysterious alchemical manuscript aand to help Diana learn how to control her witches powers. I liked the story and definitely want to read the end of the trilogy when it comes out. It just took more than 200 pages for anything to even remotely begin to happen in the story. A lot of the beginning of the story could have been trimmed.

This book picks up at the point where the previous one leaves off and continues the story of their foray into the past to seek refuge from those who mean them harm, to search for the elusive Elizabethan manuscript that Diana has uncovered in the present day library at Oxford University and to seek out a witch who can help her to control her powers.

More escapism. And more Gabaldon-esque with this second book in the trilogy. Also some of the detail gives away the author's other life as a historian. Not that either of those are bad things. Perfect for reading in front of the fire while the winter carries on outside...

I wanted to love this book as much as Discovery of Witches - but it just was not as good. There were way too many characters who came and went in a chapter. Too many story lines that wandered and never caught fire. I still like the main characters and enjoy how they interact with real historical figures, but the plot was kind of nowhere. Hope the third one has better editing because I will still have to read it.
