I appreciate this book without really loving it. Russo writes some great, fully rounded characters, and he really knows how to convey a sense of place--in this case, an old factory town at the nadir of decline, presided over by the lady of the mansion on the hill across the river. However, I grew really frustrated with the main character, almost as much as his ex-wife in the story does. Read for the Book Awards Reading Challenge
I loved this book.
I loved this book.

I felt the book was slow moving until the last eighty or so pages. The description on the back said the book "overflows hilarity..." But I don't think I smiled once.
