Beautiful, well-written, complex. Explores effect of mother on daughter incredibly. I love how the character of Astrid changes throughout the novel, and how she comes to peace with herself -- the kind of story I can relate to. Not that I've had the same traumatic experiences, but the novel reveals Astrid's growing up so vividly it reminds me of how I changed and allowed my environment and the people who surround me to affect me throughout my life. 3 1/2 overall. I loved some parts and I hated others, too repetitive and unnecessarily lengthy and slow.
