Alternated listening to this on Audio (Audible) and reading it on my tablet. Apparently neither of these forms of book is for me! On the Audible version, Maya Angelou narrates the book, and it is nice to have her authentic voice, although she reads very very slowly, and I kept wanting to speed it up! On the tablet, I just didn't like having an electronic in front of me. The whole time I kind of wish I just had opted to buy a regular printed copy of the book. This was difficult as an audiobook because of the cadence of her speech. It felt as though she was a bit detached from the subject, or else that is just because some of the themes are so very difficult. A book I had always heard about, but never got around to reading, this book is now one of my all-time favorites. Honest, heart-wrenching, desperately realistic account of growing up in the segregated South, this novel truly is amazing. The characters, events, and places leap off the page.
