Beautiful Thing is a non-fiction book written more as an informative reporting about Leela, a young girl working in the dance bars of Bombay. The author reports on Leela's life, and in doing so highlights the absolute destitution and despair that exists in the lower castes of India. The style of the book is such that the reader follows Leela through various incidents in her day-to-day life.
