Eilis can't find work in Ireland, but, sponsored by a priest, she comes to America. Exhilaration...homesickness...jealousies...frustrations...Eilis shares all of these parts of the immigration experience with us, the readers. It's a poignant story and, most importantly, it feels very, very true.

Why do authors do this to their novels? It is just porn. Publishers should warn us when there's this kind of content that a lot of us consider unacceptable in our fiction.

The Story
Eilis Lacey is a young Irish woman who has finished school, shows great promise, but like many, she can find no meaningful employment in post-World War II-era Ireland. an unexpected charming read
I did not know much about this book as I was reading it bc my book club will be reading Long Island. I was pleasantly surprised by home much I enjoyed the story. It was interesting to read about the Irish immigrants in Brooklyn. The perspective in Ireland was also intriguing. I am looking forward to reading about Eilis and her future
