Considered one the great "travel" books, probably because it's so much more than that (for example, see Rebecca West's Black Lamb, Grey Falcon). My edition has a terrific forward by Paul Fussell, which itself has provided me with about a half dozen titles to look into. Here's a book cover blurb from Fussell:

"What Ulysses is to the novel between the wars and what The Waste Land is to poetry, The Road to Oxiana is to the travel book."

That's high praise from an author I admire. Anyway, we shall see

An enjoyable read by an early 20th century traveler who makes it all the way to Afghanistan & back. A pretty witty writer who meets many interesting people along the way--and who makes some interesting observations.
